I think these types of social media sites are great as long as you can absolutely control everything about its design. Having the freedom to design, and accommodate content while giving a sense of personality will eventually ALMOST kill the personal website. I say ALMOST because I firmly believe that, while pre-fabricated sites that allows you to host, connect, or compile your online presence is great, nothing will ever beat a truly functional, never before seen website. I might join this, Arabito.
